Calligraphy
Hossein Ziai’s calligraphies are drawn with marker pen and gold ink on 22 in. x 28 in. paper. They were produced between 1983-1988 and exhibited at Harvard in 1984 and 1985. Not shown below are nearly two dozen works purchased by the al-Sabah Collection in Kuwait and other private collectors in the U.S. Expressing a state of cosmic unity, the calligraphies frame mirror images of Islamic mantras such as “The Earth belongs to God” within mandalas inspired by Hindu and Buddhist spiritual traditions.
